On Thursday, Abdul Samad al-Zarkoushi, a member of the Coordination Framework, acknowledged a strong movement to amend the election law along paths aimed at improving the electoral process and increasing voter turnout from various groups and segments of society.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Zarkoushi explained that “there is a movement within the Coordination Framework to support amending the election law in four or five key areas, focusing on addressing the negative indicators observed in the last election cycle, particularly those related to enhancing participation.”
He added that “adopting the unified national ID card in elections is one way to support the electoral process,” noting that “the coming months will witness activity in this direction, through meetings and direct discussions of the proposed amendments.” Al-Zarkoushi pointed out that “there are numerous proposals to amend the election law, but their presentation and discussion will take place through the Council of Representatives,” emphasizing that “changing certain points in the election law would strengthen the democratic process and encourage broader citizen participation in voting.”
He affirmed that “increasing voter turnout will positively impact and support the democratic process in the country and strengthen its progress.”
