The visit of Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi to the United States raises many questions about its aims and objectives, especially as the US has sent its envoy to Iraq to discuss several issues or, perhaps, to impose its will in an undeclared manner. This has been warned against by many political circles, given the developments in the region, where the US administration seeks to serve Zionist interests and ensure that many countries, including Iraq, normalize relations with the occupying entity. Hussain al-Karawi, head of the organizing committee for the Belt and Road Movement, told Al-Maalomah, “There are many questions about the aims and objectives behind the Iraqi prime minister’s visits to the United States and meetings with the US president.”
He added, “The US administration continues to control and impose its dictates on Iraq, as many of its leaders and politicians remain subservient to American policies that have no good intentions for Iraq whatsoever.”
He stated that “America, by imposing its dictates on Iraq, seeks to push the country towards normalization with the Zionist entity,” noting that “the American side opposes any country that considers the usurping entity an enemy, and is working to push Iraq towards normalization.”
For his part, political analyst Saeed al-Badri explained to Al-Maalomah that “America is currently experiencing its weakest period, which necessitates that the Iraqi government not allow or submit to the policies of the American administration that it seeks to implement within Iraq.”
He continued, “The past period, especially previous governments, paid the price for following American desires and what Washington dictates to Iraq through its envoys. Therefore, Baghdad has an opportunity to strengthen its position towards Washington.”
He pointed out that “the American administration seeks to assert its control over Iraq and the decisions made by the government by interfering in its affairs and sending envoys to serve Washington’s interests and impose its control, especially over economic matters, through a series of decisions that serve the interests of the United States.”
In a related development, economist Hashim al-Haboubi deemed Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s announcement of taking groups of Iraqi businessmen to Washington an “unfortunate step,” describing it as a repetition of previous government scenarios that open the door to intermediaries and commissions at the expense of direct contracts.
Al-Haboubi told the Al-Maalouma news agency that “the businessmen accompanying the government delegation do not possess the capacity for actual investment within the United States,” explaining that “the primary objective of some of them is to become intermediaries for foreign companies to obtain commissions, which constitutes significant harm to public funds and the state.”
He added that “preserving public funds requires taking ministers specializing in the financial and economic sectors, along with a very limited number of government advisors,” noting that “this procedure is the most appropriate to ensure that contracts and economic activities are concluded directly between the Iraqi state and international companies without any intermediaries, thus avoiding suspicions of corruption.”
