On Tuesday, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi discussed with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin the development of Iraqi-German relations and ways to strengthen the economic partnership and expand the participation of German companies in development projects within Iraq.

The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that the meeting addressed joint efforts to strengthen the bilateral economic partnership and support the expansion of opportunities for German companies to participate in ongoing development steps and projects in Iraq.

Al-Zaydi stressed that the government is proceeding with strengthening economic openness to Germany and the European Union countries, in light of the trends towards increasing the production and export of crude oil, raising the levels of electricity production, and accelerating Iraq’s transformation into an economic corridor between Asian and European markets through the Development Road project.

Al-Zaydi reiterated his support for regional stability and reducing regional tensions, which would allow for more opportunities for regional and international economic partnerships and integration in development projects.

In this context, the Iraqi Prime Minister held a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the German capital, Berlin.

According to his media office, Al-Zaidi and the German Chancellor headed the two countries’ delegations in the expanded talks.

Al-Zaidi arrived in Berlin this afternoon, after concluding an official visit to France, during which he met with French President Emmanuel Macron, and witnessed the signing of six memoranda of understanding, declarations of intent, and a cooperation protocol in the fields of defense, artificial intelligence, youth, research and innovation, development, energy, and civil aviation.
