Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi directed on Monday that oil companies operate 24 hours a day to ensure the sustainability and increase of production and export operations, in light of a significant decline in Iraqi oil exports due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
During an expanded meeting of the Ministry of Oil, Al-Zaydi stressed, according to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, the importance of expediting practical solutions to deal with the repercussions of the crisis, through the rehabilitation and development of oil pipelines, and contracting with international companies to market and sell Iraqi oil.
He stressed the need to strengthen alternative export outlets, noting that the Ministry of Oil has many solutions and opportunities that can be worked on urgently, in order to achieve quick and tangible results.
Al-Zaydi directed that the current circumstances be exploited and the crisis turned into an opportunity for success, through the development of oil infrastructure and the expansion of export outlets.
This took place during an expanded meeting of the Ministry of Oil, attended by the Ministers of Finance and Oil, the Director of the Office of the Prime Minister, and the Undersecretaries and Directors General in all departments and formations of the Ministry, where the plans and strategies prepared by the Ministry and the mechanisms for dealing with the repercussions of the Strait of Hormuz crisis and the proposed solutions to ensure the smooth export of Iraqi oil and increase its export capabilities were reviewed.
The meeting also witnessed a discussion of the reality of the oil sector and the levels of production and export in light of the exceptional circumstances that the region is witnessing, and the resulting closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the decline in Iraqi oil export rates, in addition to discussing policies, plans and possible solutions to ensure the continuation of exports and enhance its alternative outlets.
