Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi called on American companies on Friday evening to contribute to the establishment of the Energy City on the waterfront of the Faw Peninsula, along the development route.
The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that Al-Zaidi received US Energy Secretary Christopher Wright at his residence in Washington, DC. The meeting discussed ways of joint cooperation in the energy sector, the government’s plans to enhance Iraq’s capabilities in crude oil production, refining and processing of oil products, and cooperation with American companies in these key economic fields.
Al-Zaydi stressed that the government has adopted an ambitious program to strengthen the Iraqi economy through long-term partnerships with the world’s major economies, particularly with the United States, emphasizing the need for technology and accelerated development to shorten the time required to achieve these goals.
He reiterated the call for American companies to contribute to the development of Iraq’s energy sector and to invest in mining.
For his part, Wright affirmed his government’s support for Iraq’s development steps and the calls from American companies, which have expressed their enthusiasm to work in Iraq. He also affirmed support for steps to combat corruption and restrict weapons to the state, as well as plans to expand investment in the associated gas sectors and end its flaring operations.
Earlier on Friday, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi announced, following the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding with American companies during the investment summit held in Washington, that Iraq intends to adopt an “open door” policy.
Iraqi Oil Minister Bassem al-Abadi signed an agreement with Syria to extend oil pipelines and another with American companies, according to what Shafaq News Agency correspondent Mustafa Hashim told Washington, D.C.
Earlier, Adam Cortese, CEO of the American renewable energy companies Sun Africa and UGTR , revealed to Shafaq News Agency that the executive steps for developing a strategic solar energy project in Iraq have begun in cooperation with the Iraqi Kar Group, confirming the opening of an office in Baghdad to manage the planned project.
This comes as part of the agenda of the official visit that began last Monday by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and his accompanying delegation, which included a number of ministers, senior officials, investors, business owners, and Iraqi capitalists.
Last Tuesday, during his meeting with al-Zaidi at the White House, US President Donald Trump announced that this week would see the unveiling of a major oil partnership with Iraq, in addition to extensive trade deals in various sectors.
