On Sunday, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stressed the need for the United States and Iran to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement what was agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding between the two countries, in order to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and enhance regional stability.
This came during an official meeting held by the two sides at Lusail Palace in the Qatari capital, Doha, which addressed bilateral relations and ways to develop them in various fields, in addition to discussing the most prominent regional and international issues and developments, especially the situation in the region.
According to a Qatari statement seen by Shafaq News Agency, the Emir of Qatar welcomed the Iraqi Prime Minister and the accompanying delegation, expressing his hope to strengthen the brotherly relations between the two countries.
Al-Zaidi offered his condolences to the Emir of Qatar on the death of the Father Emir, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, while emphasizing Iraq’s keenness to expand the horizons of bilateral cooperation.
The talks were attended on the Qatari side by Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Head of the Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, and Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, while on the Iraqi side they were attended by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and a number of senior officials.
