Member of the State of Law Coalition, Alaa Al-Yasiri, confirmed that the Shiite political forces are proceeding with their national decisions away from any American pressures or dictates, stressing that the fate of Iraq cannot be held hostage to the will of other countries.
Al-Yasiri told Al-Maalouma News Agency, “The Shiite political parties do not comply with any external directives, and it is shameful to allow foreign countries to determine the course of Iraqi political decision-making,” explaining that “the decision must be purely Iraqi and stem from the will of the elected forces.”
She added that “the majority of the forces within the coordination framework agree on choosing Nouri al-Maliki as Prime Minister during the next phase, given that he possesses political experience and the ability to manage the complex issues that the country is going through.”
Al-Yassiri explained that “what is being raised about the existence of external pressures or vetoes, especially regarding Donald Trump’s tweet, is nothing more than attempts at misinformation behind which stand some internal political forces to achieve special gains.”
She explained that “Iraq is going through a series of accumulated crises, including financial and economic aspects and the water crisis, as well as security and service challenges, which requires choosing a strong figure capable of making decisive decisions at this sensitive stage.”
Al-Yassiri concluded by saying, “The coordination framework is moving according to a clear vision to overcome the political deadlock and resolve constitutional entitlements in a way that guarantees the stability of the political process and preserves Iraqi sovereignty.”
