Political analyst Adel al-Tamimi confirmed on Thursday the existence of a sharp division and significant differences in viewpoints among Kurdish forces regarding the presidential candidate, ruling out the possibility of reaching a “bilateral” agreement between the two main parties in the near future.
Al-Tamimi told the Information Agency that “the situation within the Kurdish political sphere is witnessing significant complications regarding the resolution of the presidential position, due to each party’s insistence on its own candidate,” indicating that “the gap in positions remains wide despite attempts to bridge it.”
He added that “current indicators rule out the possibility of reaching a compromise candidate or a consensus agreement before the parliamentary session,” noting that “matters are effectively heading towards the parliament to resolve the issue through a direct vote, leaving the choice of the appropriate person for the position to the representatives.”
Al-Tamimi pointed out that “going to parliament with more than one candidate has become the most likely scenario, given the Kurdish forces’ adherence to their current positions, which will place the other political forces before the responsibility of a constitutional resolution.”
