Political analyst Majashaa Al-Tamimi predicted that the cabinet would be completed after Eid al-Adha, noting that the chances of resolving this issue still exist, but the matter remains dependent on the ability of the political forces to reach settlements regarding the contentious ministries.
Al-Tamimi told Al-Maalouma that “the problem does not appear to be technical or administrative as much as it is political,” noting that “some ministerial portfolios represent important centers of influence and are linked to sensitive files related to security, resources and balances between the forces participating in the government.”
He added that “the sharp division within some political alliances may prolong the negotiations and delay reaching a final agreement on the candidates for the remaining ministries,” making the resolution of the issue dependent on “political understandings more than any other considerations.”
Al-Tamimi added that “political forces are required to prioritize the interest of Iraq over narrow partisan and factional interests, and to work on restoring the confidence of the Iraqi citizen by expediting the resolution of outstanding issues and focusing on addressing service-related matters and the basic needs of citizens, in a way that contributes to strengthening political stability and meeting the aspirations of the public.”
The Iraqi political scene is witnessing rapid activity aimed at reaching agreements on the nine remaining ministerial portfolios in al-Zaidi’s cabinet, amidst intensive efforts by political forces to resolve outstanding disputes. While political parties anticipate holding a parliamentary session in the near future, attention is focused on completing the government formation and finalizing the vacant ministerial positions to outline the final features of al-Zaidi’s government.
