The political analyst, Majashaa al-Tamimi, confirmed on Saturday that what is being circulated on some media platforms and social media sites regarding a move towards a compromise candidate for the premiership instead of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani or Nouri al-Maliki is not based on a declared political decision or an official position within the coordination framework so far. Tamimi told the Information Agency that “these discussions fall within the realm of leaks and incomplete readings of the political scene,” noting that “current data confirms that the real competition remains confined to al-Sudani and al-Maliki, due to their political and organizational weight and their ability to negotiate at both the domestic and international levels.”
He added that “talk of a compromise candidate essentially reflects the failure to reach an agreement within the coordination framework, not the existence of a ready or agreed-upon alternative name.”
Al-Tamimi pointed out that “the scenario of an understanding between al-Sudani and al-Maliki on a single candidate, whether it be one of them or a figure who enjoys consensus within the same framework, cannot be ruled out, in order to avoid a state of division.”
