On Monday, MP Riyadh al-Tamimi called for the adoption of a “Made in Iraq” strategy as a priority to support the national economy and its institutions, particularly in the electricity sector.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Tamimi said, “The General Company for Transformers, a leading company in terms of production quality, has an annual production capacity exceeding 6,000 transformers of various capacities, making it a significant asset for supporting the electrical grid.”
He added, “This company is capable of developing further by modernizing its production lines and increasing its output, which will contribute to meeting the needs of the Ministry of Electricity.” He stressed “the necessity of adopting a ‘Made in Iraq’ strategy as a priority for the current government, because supporting government institutions leads to greater leaps in production and development.”
He explained that “this will positively impact broad segments of society and reduce import rates, especially since experience has proven that domestic production surpasses much of what is imported in terms of quality and capacity.”
Al-Tamimi pointed out that “adopting a ‘Made in Iraq’ strategy should not be limited to the electricity sector alone, but should include the rest of the sectors, especially given the existence of dozens of specialized factories that can be transformed into important production platforms attracting thousands of workers, thus contributing to providing broader job opportunities and supporting the national economy.”
