A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Ghiath al-Surji, confirmed that the Kurdistan Region has entered a dark tunnel due to the unresolved issue of forming a government and the uncertain future resulting from the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) demands. Al-Surji told Al-Maalouma, “The Kurdistan Region is still being run by a caretaker government because the new government has not been formed due to the conditions the KDP is trying to impose.”
He added, “The future of the government in the region remains uncertain given the ongoing political deadlock, which may keep things as they are until the Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary elections are held, or it may lead to early elections.”
He explained that “the fate of the new government in the region is still undecided, especially since there is a chill in the relationship between the PUK and the KDP, and this is what has prevented discussions on the government issue and left matters in a dark tunnel.”
