Former MP Mohammed Hassan al-Shammari revealed three obstacles that prevented the completion of Ali al-Zaidi’s cabinet by the scheduled date during the parliamentary session to grant confidence to the new government.
Al-Shammari told Al-Maalouma, “Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi raised several points regarding the formation of the cabinet before the confidence vote session, as he sought to finalize the Interior and Defense portfolios himself.”
He added, “The political agreement and prevailing custom in Iraq tend towards distributing positions based on political and sectarian quotas, which created a point of contention in finalizing the names nominated for the cabinet.”
He explained that “American interference was also present in al-Zaidi’s cabinet, as Washington vetoed the names nominated by some political blocs with which the US has disagreements. This is one of the thorny issues that prevented the completion of al-Zaidi’s cabinet and postponed it until today.”
