The Information/Baghdad –
Former MP Mohammed al-Shammari confirmed on Monday that the issue of nominating the next prime minister within the coordination framework has been definitively settled. He indicated that the decision has settled on Nouri al-Maliki, pending the completion of the constitutional requirements related to the election of the president.
Al-Shammari told the Information Agency, “The coordination framework made its decision regarding the premiership, and the choice was narrowed down to Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Nouri al-Maliki, before the matter was decided in favor of al-Maliki.”
He pointed out that “the appointment of the prime minister will take place after the election of the president, according to the constitutional procedures adopted in Iraq.”
He explained that “the nomination was not unanimous, but it came with an absolute majority within the framework,” noting that “the only objection was from Mr. Ammar al-Hakim, before the differences were resolved and a unified decision was reached within the coordination framework.”
