Former MP Mohammed al-Shabaki confirmed that Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi had protected himself before launching the anti-corruption campaign, noting that the Prime Minister had presented all corruption-related files to political forces before proceeding with the campaign.
Al-Shabaki told Al-Maalouma, “Al-Zaidi launched an anti-corruption campaign targeting primarily political figures, but the operation was not carried out based on political motives. Rather, it was based on judicial rulings and lawsuits issued by the Integrity Commission.”
He added, “The corruption files, which led to legal action and operations to combat this scourge, were all presented to the political blocs and forces, who agreed to allow the government to proceed with its measures against the individuals accused of corruption.”
He explained that “the government protected itself from accusations that might be leveled against it by some political parties by presenting the files to the political forces, especially since the issue is more political than judicial.”
