Political analyst Ibrahim al-Sarraj believes that al-Sudani is attempting to plant obstacles for the incoming prime minister by imposing a heavy burden on the next government through financial and economic measures and decisions.
Al-Sarraj told Al-Maalouma, “The financial policies of the caretaker government led by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani are the reason for the current financial crisis and failures.”
He added, “Once the Coordination Framework reached a consensus regarding al-Maliki assuming the premiership, al-Sudani’s government began creating a heavy legacy of crises to present to al-Maliki, including salary reductions, increased fees and taxes, and the withholding of allowances for university graduates.”
He explained, “The decisions of al-Sudani’s government should not be implemented, as it is a caretaker government and therefore lacks the authority to issue such decisions. However, the measures and decisions taken represent an attempt by al-Sudani to plant obstacles for the next prime minister and increase the heavy burden the incoming government will face.”
