On Thursday, the leader of the Shiite National Movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, directed leaders in the “Peace Brigades” to complete the procedures for disengaging from the movement and merging with the state within a week.
A document issued by the private office of Al-Hanana, and signed by Al-Sadr, published by Shafaq News Agency, stated that the leader of the Shiite National Movement, Muqtada Al-Sadr, issued an assignment to a number of leaders in the “Peace Brigades” to complete the procedures for separating the military side from the Shiite National Movement, and moving towards integration with state institutions.
According to the document, Al-Sadr tasked his private office director Haider Al-Jabri, military advisor Abu Duaa Al-Issawi, jihadist assistant Tahsin Al-Humaidawi, and the “Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous” official Muhammad Al-Aboudi with completing the separation procedures within a maximum period of one week, with the full handover to be completed on Eid Al-Ghadir, with the integration of the civilian side within the framework of “Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous,” in coordination with official authorities.
This step comes as a continuation of a previous announcement by al-Sadr regarding the separation of the “Peace Brigades” from the Shiite national movement and their joining the state, and his call for the rest of the factions to move away from partisan and sectarian frameworks and join under the authority of the state.
Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Faleh al-Zaidi praised the move, considering it “an important path to strengthening internal stability and consolidating the principle of restricting weapons to the state,” calling on all factions to work under the umbrella of the state and its official institutions.
