The leader of the Shiite National Movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, made a phone call today, Sunday, to Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, during which he congratulated him on the formation of the new Iraqi government.

A statement issued by al-Sadr’s media office said that during the call, he urged al-Zaydi to preserve the country’s sovereignty and improve the service situation “after seeing his determination, resolve, and persistence in improving the Iraqi situation.”

Al-Sadr also called on the Prime Minister to stand firmly against corruption, preserve the country’s resources, and ensure a decent life for the Iraqi people by providing services, meeting their needs, and protecting their rights.

On Thursday, May 14, the Iraqi parliament voted to grant confidence to the Al-Zidi government and its ministerial program, approving 14 ministers, while postponing the vote on 9 other ministries until after the Eid al-Adha holiday due to political disputes and the United States’ warning against including armed factions in the new ministerial formation.
