Former MP Baqir al-Saadi affirmed on Wednesday that the Development Road project is a vital and strategic project for the future of Iraq, stressing that all future governments are obligated to implement its components without exception.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Saadi said that the project enjoys direct support from 30 to 40 international multinational companies, adding that the Development Road will be a priority for the next government. He pointed out that it will place Iraq at the heart of international maritime routes and could attract at least 7% of goods coming from Southeast Asia towards Europe via the ports of Basra and from there to Turkey.
Al-Saadi indicated that Baghdad will not relinquish this project, which represents a glimmer of hope for strengthening the national economy and moving it towards a diversified economy, far removed from the fluctuations of the oil market and its price volatility.
