Former MP Baqir al-Saadi confirmed on Friday that the Development Road project will provide at least half a million job opportunities in its various phases, noting that the project is binding on all governments without exception.
Al-Saadi explained to Al-Maalouma that “the Development Road project has not stopped and is awaiting the 2026 budget decision to allocate the necessary funds to proceed with its current phase,” pointing out that the project is strategic and encompasses more than 10 vital sectors.
He added that “the project will secure no less than half a million job opportunities according to our estimates, and the number may increase as the phases progress,” noting that dozens of international companies have expressed their serious desire to invest and inject tens of billions of dollars to accelerate the pace of completion.
Al-Saadi emphasized that “the project may create industrial cities, in addition to production lines for export, and will also form a corridor for about 10% of maritime transport routes from Southeast Asia towards Europe via the ports of Basra, reaching Turkey and from there to Europe.”
