MP Ahmed al-Saadi revealed on Sunday a new initiative led by the Coordination Framework towards the Kurdish parties, aimed at resolving the issue of electing the president and completing the stalled constitutional requirements.
Al-Saadi told Al-Maalouma that “the forces of the Coordination Framework are seeking to convince the Kurdish parties of the necessity of reaching a final agreement that ends the political deadlock,” explaining that “this initiative comes at a time when negotiations between the two Kurdish blocs are at a complete standstill.”
He added that “completing the building of state structures and forming the new government depends on the agreement of the Kurdish forces,” noting that “the Framework is working as a facilitator to bring viewpoints closer and overcome partisan differences in the interest of the public good.”
The political arena is currently in a state of anticipation, awaiting the outcome of the understandings between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan regarding the presidential candidate, an issue that continues to pose a stumbling block to proceeding with the constitutional steps.
