The former MP, Baqir al-Saadi, confirmed on Thursday that the Nasiriyah International Airport project has entered its final stages, anticipating its opening soon, making it the first airport to open this year.
Speaking to Al-Maalomah, al-Saadi said, “The Nasiriyah International Airport project has reached its final stage, which involves installing the technical and engineering equipment for the navigation systems that guide aircraft.” He explained that “this step paves the way for its imminent opening after the completion of all technical requirements.”
He added that “the airport will represent a significant turning point for Dhi Qar Governorate, especially given the increasing influx of investment companies, particularly in the energy sector.” He pointed out that “the presence of a functioning international airport will contribute to revitalizing air traffic not only domestically but also with a number of regional and international capitals.”
Al-Saadi indicated that “other airports will join Nasiriyah Airport after the completion of their construction phases, most notably the Karbala Airport,” stressing that “expanding the map of international airports in Iraq has become an urgent necessity with the increasing number of travelers and international openness, especially in the field of religious tourism and the movement of companies and investors.”
