Al-Saadi identifies 3 direct causes of corruption in IraqInformation/Baghdad…
Former member of the Parliamentary Services Committee, Baqir al-Saadi, identified three direct reasons behind the spread of corruption within state institutions on Monday. He called for opening all files with oversight bodies and tightening measures to protect public funds.
Al-Saadi explained to Al-Maalouma that “corruption is a cancerous scourge with negative repercussions on state institutions and ministries. Therefore, we support any efforts aimed at protecting public funds and combating corruption in all its forms.”
He added that “there are three important points that form the basis of the spread of corruption in Iraq, most notably the inflation of estimated project costs, the presence of companies that do not meet the requirements, some of which exist only on paper, and the lack of competence and experience in project implementation.”
Al-Saadi pointed to “the necessity of forming committees to inspect and audit all received projects to ensure their compliance with technical and engineering specifications and to prevent any violations that could lead to the waste of public funds.”
He emphasized that “corruption has resulted in the squandering of enormous sums of money over the past years, and therefore this issue must be addressed with greater attention. All files with oversight bodies must be opened, and legal action must be taken against those responsible for wasting public funds.”
