Former MP Baqir al-Saadi confirmed on Monday that there are no disagreements regarding the nomination of Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, for the premiership of the next government. He pointed out that the decision came as a result of consensus among all the forces within the coordinating framework.
Al-Saadi told Al-Maalouma, “The selection of al-Maliki came as a result of consensus among the forces within the framework, and therefore the matter is settled for us.”
He added, “The selection was based on four main reasons, most notably his extensive experience, his relationships, and his ability to lead Iraq to safety amidst the current challenges. I expect him to be able to form a strong government capable of addressing the issues entrusted to it, especially combating corruption, putting the Iraqi economy on the right track, diversifying revenues, and confronting the financial crisis in a manner that takes into account all the challenges at hand.”
