Former MP Baqir al-Saadi confirmed on Friday that Nouri al-Maliki is the sole candidate of the Coordination Framework Forces to assume the premiership of the next government.
Speaking to Information, al-Saadi stated, “The Coordination Framework Forces remain committed to their decision to nominate Nouri al-Maliki for the premiership of the next government, and there is no turning back on this position.” He pointed out that “much of what is being circulated in the media is merely speculation and conjecture, while the reality is different.”
He added, “Maliki remains the Coordination Framework Forces’ candidate for the premiership of the next government, given that the Framework represents the largest bloc within the Iraqi Parliament. Therefore, according to the constitutional process, the largest bloc determines who assumes the premiership.”
He indicated that “once the position of President of the Republic is decided, the candidate of the largest bloc will be tasked with forming the government, after which the cabinet formation process will be finalized, in which the various political forces that won seats in the elections will participate.”
