Former MP Baqir al-Saadi confirmed on Monday that Nouri al-Maliki remains the candidate of the largest bloc in the Iraqi Parliament, denying leaks circulating in the past 24 hours.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Saadi said, “Nouri al-Maliki is still the candidate of the Coordination Framework within Parliament, and all the leaks circulating on news platforms and websites in the past few hours, which spoke of the Framework withdrawing its support for al-Maliki or considering withdrawing, are inaccurate, and we categorically deny them.”
He added, “The Coordination Framework is clear in its decisions, and the ball is now in the court of the Kurdish forces to present a consensus candidate for the presidency.”
