Former MP Baqir al-Saadi confirmed on Thursday the arrival of a third oil tanker at Basra ports to load large quantities of crude oil for export to international markets.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Saadi said, “Baghdad has succeeded in developing a plan to ensure the continued export of crude oil to global markets, especially since the country relies heavily on oil revenues to fund the public treasury.”
He added, “A large oil tanker has arrived at Basra ports and begun loading crude oil; this is the third such tanker in a short period.” He predicted “an increase in the flow of tankers transporting Iraqi oil to international markets in the coming period.”
Al-Saadi pointed out that “Iraq has begun adopting a strategy to diversify its oil export routes, particularly through transport to Syria and Turkey, but the southern ports remain the most important route.” He suggested that “the coming weeks will witness an increase in oil marketing rates, especially with the successful passage of tankers to foreign markets via the Strait of Hormuz.”
