Former MP and member of the Iraqi Foundation Coalition, Hussein Al-Saabri, revealed on Wednesday that there are sharp political disagreements over some ministerial portfolios, ruling out the possibility of a complete government formation being finalized in the near future. Al-Saabri told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the ongoing major disagreements between political blocs over some ministries are preventing the cabinet from being passed all at once in Parliament.”
He added that “the prime minister-designate may resort to presenting only 14 candidates from his cabinet to Parliament for a vote of confidence as a first step,” explaining that “this approach aims to facilitate the government’s formation and postpone resolving the remaining contentious ministries to a second stage after gaining confidence.”
Earlier, on Tuesday, MP Riyadh Adai warned the prime minister-designate against succumbing to pressure from some political forces seeking to impose “incompetent” figures in the anticipated government formation, stressing the need to select professional ministers far removed from the abhorrent quota system.
