Imam and Friday preacher of Najaf, Sadr al-Din al-Qubanchi, warned against the formation of a regional alliance consisting of Arab countries to launch attacks targeting armed factions and their camps inside Iraq.
Al-Qubbanji said in his Friday sermon that international media outlets and channels have spoken about the formation of an Arab coalition of five Arab countries neighboring Iraq to launch airstrikes targeting the leaders and camps of Iraqi factions.
He added: “We hope that this news is not true and accurate, but we affirm that Iraq respects its neighbors and does not wish to have a political crisis with them. At the same time, if any country becomes involved in interfering in Iraqi affairs, they must bear the consequences.”
This stance comes as both the UAE and Saudi Arabia have recently been subjected to drone attacks, which the two countries said were launched from Iraqi territory.
