The Friday prayer leader of Najaf, Sadr al-Din al-Qubanchi, directed harsh criticism at US President Donald Trump for refusing to nominate Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, for the position of Prime Minister, considering that the Shiite coordination framework is now faced with two options, and no third, to decide on the candidate for this position.
In his Friday sermon, Al-Qubanchi addressed the issue of the nomination of the Iraqi Prime Minister and the American position, considering it a “breaking of the Iraqi will,” adding that “from here we have begun to witness social rejection, whether at the level of elites and parties or at the level of the public, because this position has violated Iraqi privacy and sovereignty.”
Al-Qubbanji said, “The American president is unfortunately (ill-mannered),” calling for “adherence to literary and political contexts,” saying, “Iraq is not like some of the peoples of the region whom he described as a milking cow, nor is it like Europe, which he called an old country. Iraq is a people who do not accept humiliation and possess a will that does not accept defeat.”
In the same context, the Friday prayer leader of Najaf stated that, “The coordinating framework has two options: the first option is to back down from its decisions, which means acknowledging the loss of sovereignty, and the second option is to address the situation diplomatically.”
It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump expressed his rejection of the nomination of Nouri al-Maliki, leader of the State of Law Coalition, for the premiership and formation of the new government in statements made last Tuesday, which provoked reactions from the political blocs within the coordination framework.
