Bilal al-Nasiri, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed on Sunday that the name of the next prime minister will be announced soon. He also indicated that Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, has received prior approval from the Coordination Framework for the next government.
Speaking to Al-Maalomah, al-Nasiri stated, “The Coordination Framework did not stipulate that both Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Nouri al-Maliki withdraw from the prime ministerial race together.” He clarified that “what is being circulated about a rejection of al-Maliki’s nomination within the Framework is nothing more than media exaggeration.”
He added that “the Coordination Framework has developed three scenarios for resolving the prime ministership issue,” explaining that “the existence of an agreement on al-Maliki’s nomination within the Framework and the talk of objections is simply inaccurate.”
He pointed out that “the visits of several ambassadors to al-Maliki are clear evidence of support for his nomination for prime minister in the next phase.”
