MP Jassim al-Moussawi, a member of the Coordination Framework, revealed on Saturday that political forces within the framework are leaning towards selecting a “compromise candidate” for the position of Prime Minister, confirming that this week will see a final decision on this matter.
Al-Moussawi told the Information Agency that “the intensive meetings of the Coordination Framework will lead to the selection of a compromise candidate acceptable to all for the position of Prime Minister,” indicating that “Basim al-Badri is the most suitable candidate, and it is expected that the leaders of the framework will agree on him in the coming period.”
He added that “the position will be decided this week with the agreed-upon compromise candidate,” noting that “the political forces are well aware that it is not in the national interest to delay the formation of the new government any further.”
Al-Moussawi explained that “expediting the nomination of the candidate and proceeding with the cabinet formation procedures aims to stabilize the political process and meet the requirements of the current phase,” pointing out that “the consensus within the framework has reached very advanced stages.”
Earlier, Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, a leader in the State of Law Coalition, revealed leaks indicating that Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the candidate of the Euphrates Bloc, had requested a postponement of the coordination framework meeting scheduled for Saturday until next Monday. He also confirmed the continued “uncertainty” surrounding the identity of the prime ministerial candidate.
