MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi confirmed on Tuesday that consultations on forming the government have not yet reached the stage of discussing cabinet names, noting that the cabinet’s presentation for a vote in Parliament may be slightly delayed.
Al-Moussawi told Al-Maalouma that “meetings and discussions regarding the formation of the next government are still ongoing in Baghdad,” explaining that “there is a near-finalized understanding of the nature of the government formation among the political forces based on a points-based system.”
He added that “there are assurances that important steps could be taken next week to complete the government formation process, but these remain within the realm of leaks without official confirmation so far,” emphasizing that “no specific names have been put forward for ministerial portfolios in the next government.”
He pointed out that “it is still too early to determine names, as final understandings regarding cabinet candidates require more time,” predicting that “the picture will become clearer to the public within the next two weeks.”
