Information/Baghdad –
Economic expert Nabil al-Marsoumi confirmed on Wednesday that Iraq intends to borrow approximately 38 trillion dinars to cover the estimated 43 trillion dinar deficit in the 2027 budget. He indicated that 88% of the deficit will be financed through domestic and foreign borrowing.
Al-Marsoumi explained in a post reviewed by the Information Agency that “total foreign borrowing will reach 16.156 trillion dinars, distributed between 8.421 trillion dinars in new loans and 7.735 trillion dinars in ongoing loans.”
He added that “domestic borrowing will reach 21.734 trillion dinars, distributed as follows: 14.743 trillion dinars from treasury bill issuances, 5 trillion dinars from bonds, and 2 trillion dinars from loans to government banks.”
Al-Marsoumi pointed out that “these figures mean the government will rely on domestic and foreign borrowing to cover the majority of the deficit gap in the 2027 budget, amounting to approximately 88% of the total estimated deficit of 43 trillion dinars.”
