On Sunday, Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, condemned the attacks targeting the homes of Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, warning against attempts to undermine security and stability in the country as a result of these actions.
Al-Maliki said in a post on the “X” website that “what happened in terms of transgressions in the Kurdistan Region, and the targeting of the homes of the region’s leaders, Masoud Barzani and Nechirvan Barzani, is an act that is rejected and condemned by any party whatsoever,” considering that “these actions do not only target specific individuals, but also affect the security and stability of Iraq as a whole, and contribute to weakening national unity.”
He added, “Today, we are in dire need of strengthening the spirit of solidarity and cohesion among the people of the nation, and rejecting violence in all its forms,” stressing the need to “stand united to thwart the attempts of those who seek to destabilize the country and incite strife among the components of the Iraqi people.”
The home of the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, in the city of Duhok was targeted yesterday, Saturday, by a drone, which sparked widespread reactions and condemnation at the local, regional and international levels.
The Kurdish leadership condemned the attack in a statement, urging the Iraqi authorities to take a decisive stance regarding the repeated attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region. It revealed that its headquarters had been subjected to five attacks during the past period, but it had remained silent “to avoid arousing concern and anger among the public.”
