The leader of the State of Law coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, revealed his position on the calls to postpone the early parliamentary elections scheduled for next October 10 and the formation of an emergency government.
Al-Maliki said in a statement that the Euphrates News Agency received a copy of, “There has been a lot of talk lately about postponing the parliamentary elections. We would like to confirm that the elections will take place at the time officially specified and not postponed. We also affirm our strong rejection of the emergency government because it means a rebellion against democracy, the principles of parliamentary power rotation, and abuse.” And detracting from the will of the Iraqi people, who decided to take part in the widespread elections. ”
And he stressed that “the efforts of the High Electoral Commission should not be wasted, after it had gone a long way in preparing and overcoming difficulties and challenges.”
Al-Maliki called on “the political and social forces to announce their rejection of the idea of delay and insist on establishing it.”
He called on “the government to plan and work diligently and firmly to provide a security environment that protects candidates and voters and prevents fraud.”
