Independent politician Sheikh Haider al-Lami confirmed on Saturday that the issue of nominating the prime minister is currently limited to Nouri al-Maliki and Mohammed al-Shia al-Sudani, denying any other nominations.
Al-Lami told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The two actual and real candidates are Nouri al-Maliki and Muhammad al-Sudani, and anyone who claims otherwise is being unrealistic.”
He added that “he cannot disclose whether there is a consensus or majority within the coordination framework, but Mr. Maliki is the most likely candidate at this moment.”
Al-Lami pointed out that the framework itself acknowledges that the two individuals mentioned are the true candidates, even before the elections.
