On Monday, MP Ali Saber Al-Kinani called on the Iraqi government to take urgent action and open high-level coordination channels with its brothers in the Islamic Republic of Iran to ensure the smooth and safe flow of national trade.
Al-Kinani told Al-Maalomah that “the current stage requires strengthening security and economic cooperation with the Iranian side, especially with regard to maritime navigation,” calling on the relevant government agencies to “communicate with Tehran to obtain the necessary understandings and approvals to secure the passage of Iraqi ships and tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.”
Al-Kinani explained that “this step comes within the framework of preserving Iraq’s higher interests and avoiding any obstacles that might affect the movement of exports and imports,” stressing that “the Islamic Republic represents a strategic partner and an active regional power in securing vital waterways in the region.”
