Al-Khazali emphasizes monopolizing weapons and affirms the constitutionality of the PeshmergaShafaq News – Baghdad
The Secretary-General of the Asaib Ahl al-Haq movement, Qais al-Khazali, affirmed on Thursday that the Peshmerga is a constitutional institution and there is no term for “restricting its weapons,” while pointing to the necessity of restricting the weapons of the factions to the security services, considering September 30th to be a “pivotal moment.”

Al-Khazali said in a televised interview with several satellite channels: “There is no such thing as restricting the Peshmerga’s weapons because it is an institution recognized within the laws and the constitution, and the sovereignty of the state must be complete and undiminished.”

He added: “Confining weapons to the hands of the state is a legitimate and correct ambition for the stability of its institutions, and the stability of state institutions requires that weapons be within the security institutions.”

He pointed out that “Shia political leaders are more concerned than others with restricting weapons to the state, and that the process of transferring weapons to state institutions was done in a real way and not just formally.”

He pointed out that “the presence of weapons outside state institutions had objective reasons and circumstances related to the occupation and ISIS, and the success of the project to restrict weapons to the state requires addressing the reasons for their presence outside the official system.”

He continued, “The weapons of the Asa’ib have been confined to the Popular Mobilization Forces institution, and we are not ashamed that they are in the hands of the PMF.”

Regarding Iran, he pointed out that “the repercussions of overthrowing the regime in Iran will not be limited to it and will include the countries of the region, and Iraq’s position towards Iran is reflected in the positions of the religious authority, the government and the people.”

Regarding the news of Laith al-Khazali’s nomination for a position in the government, the Secretary-General of the movement denied that “limiting the contract for completing the formation of the government to the Sadiqun movement and Laith al-Khazali is incorrect and inaccurate.”

He added: The position of Deputy Prime Minister is disputed between the Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and there is also a knot within the Sunni component regarding the Ministry of Culture.
