MP Mudhar al-Karawi called on Monday for an investigation into what he described as “black market applications” that have drained the savings of a large segment of citizens in several provinces over the past few years.
Al-Karawi told Al-Maalouma that “recent years have witnessed the emergence of companies operating financial trading applications in several provinces, offering attractive returns to those who deposited their savings, before these applications suddenly shut down and disappeared, taking with them hundreds of millions of dinars of citizens’ savings, especially those of young people who pinned their hopes on them.”
He added that “these applications, which he described as black market, constitute a form of organized fraud and deception using professional methods, draining the savings of ordinary people,” stressing “the necessity of dealing with them seriously and opening comprehensive investigations into them.”
Al-Karawi stressed “the importance of relevant authorities playing an active role in tracking such applications and warning citizens against using them, as they are fronts for fraud and deception,” noting that “a considerable number of citizens have fallen victim to these applications over the past years.”
