Zuhair Al-Jalabi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed today that Iraq is facing complex political, economic and security challenges, which requires choosing a strong and decisive figure to lead the next government, stressing that the coalition leader, Nouri Al-Maliki, represents the most suitable choice for this sensitive stage.
Al-Jalabi told Al-Maalouma that “the country is going through delicate circumstances and needs a leader who has political experience and the ability to manage crises, not just a state employee,” indicating that “Al-Maliki enjoys internal and external confidence, and has a wide network of international and regional relations that qualifies him to manage complex files.”
He added that “the agreements within the coordination framework are proceeding according to the principle of consensus, and the name of Maliki has been decided for the next government,” noting that “the withdrawal of the current Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, from the nomination race is a step in the right direction and contributes to reducing the intensity of political disputes.”
Al-Jalabi stated that “talk of Kurdish objection to al-Maliki’s nomination is inaccurate, as there are no official positions rejecting him within the Kurdish camp,” noting that “al-Maliki enjoys acceptance within the national sphere and among various political forces.”
He pointed out that “all political parties realize the need to proceed with forming the next government smoothly, away from the complications and tensions that may disrupt political and economic stability.”
Al-Jalabi concluded by saying, “Any attempt to sideline Maliki from this position will fail, as he represents the choice for the next phase, and political forces are now convinced that the country needs strong leadership capable of making crucial decisions.”
