Zuhair al-Jalabi, a member of the Coordination Framework, revealed on Tuesday that prominent political figures linked to corruption cases are exerting pressure to halt the anti-corruption campaign. He explained that some of these figures publicly support Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi’s measures while secretly working to obstruct the campaign.
Al-Jalabi told the Information Agency, “There are a large number of high-ranking figures connected to Adnan al-Jumaili’s cases who publicly issue statements supporting the Prime Minister’s anti-corruption measures, while secretly working to exert pressure to stop the anti-corruption campaign.”
He added, “Combating corruption requires a clear political stance, free from duplicity, especially when the cases involve state funds and citizens’ interests.” He pointed out that “any pressure aimed at obstructing procedures or influencing the course of investigations hinders efforts to hold those involved accountable.”
Al-Jalabi stressed “the necessity of continuing the anti-corruption campaign and not allowing any political entity to interfere in the work of the competent authorities or exert pressure to close the cases,” emphasizing the importance of exposing all those involved and referring them to the judiciary according to legal procedures.
