MP Mohammed al-Hassnawi, from the Rights Movement, stressed on Thursday the need to separate the issue of completing the cabinet from the matter of the American withdrawal from Iraq later this month. He pointed to the importance of appointing ministers, especially for the Interior and Defense ministries, given the challenges facing the region.
Al-Hassnawi told Al-Maalouma that “the Rights bloc and many other blocs are pressuring the heads of the parliamentary blocs to push them towards completing the cabinet of the al-Zaydi government.”
He added that “there are disagreements among the heads of the blocs regarding who should head each ministry in al-Zaydi’s cabinet, while the Parliament emphasizes the importance of quickly filling the vacant ministerial posts.”
He explained that “there is an urgent need to expedite the appointment of ministers, especially for the Interior and Defense ministries, given the significant challenges facing Iraq,” noting that “the delay in filling these two ministries is linked to the issue of the American withdrawal from Iraq.”
He explained that “the Ministry of Defense should be independent and free from interference, in addition to equipping the Ministry of the Interior with all the necessary resources to confront the current challenges in light of the situation in the region,” stressing the need to “keep the cabinet formation process separate from the issue of the American withdrawal from Iraq and not link it to this matter.”
