Former MP Arif al-Hamami confirmed on Tuesday that there is no specific date for resolving the complexities surrounding the selection of the president of the republic, given the lack of political consensus, particularly among the Kurdish parties, on a compromise candidate.
Al-Hamami told Al-Maalouma, “Until this moment, it is impossible to set a final date that would resolve the complications in the presidential selection process, due to the absence of a political agreement that would compel the Kurdish forces to proceed with choosing a consensus candidate for this position.”
He explained that “the complexities of the situation in the region and the wars and their repercussions are casting a shadow over the Iraqi political scene,” indicating that “there are no current signs of a way out of this predicament.”
He added that “the nomination of the candidate of the largest bloc and the formation of the government cannot proceed without resolving the issue of selecting the president of the republic,” emphasizing that “this matter rests with the Kurdish forces in determining their candidate.”
