Former MP Arif al-Hamami held Kurdish parties responsible for obstructing the parliamentary session to elect the president, pointing out that the disagreements among the Kurds are behind the delay in resolving the presidential issue and the constitutional violation of exceeding the deadline for filling the position.
Al-Hamami told Al-Maalouma, “The parliament bears full responsibility regarding the session to elect the president, especially since there are electoral obligations that must be fulfilled according to the constitutional timelines.”
He added, “The Shiite bloc has fulfilled its obligations by presenting its candidate for prime minister, and the Sunni bloc has also succeeded in presenting its candidate for speaker of parliament, and the matter has been settled with the selection of the new speaker. Only the Kurdish bloc remains to decide its position on the presidential election.”
He explained that “the disagreement among the Kurds over the presidential candidate has disrupted the parliamentary session dedicated to electing the new president. Therefore, the Kurds bear the greatest responsibility for the failure to resolve the issue of the new president, especially since what has happened constitutes a constitutional violation, which harms everyone.”
