The former MP, Arif al-Hamami, called on Sunday for opening what he termed the “black file” on local governments, noting that the extent of public funds being wasted has become alarming. In an interview with Al-Maalomah, al- Hamami explained that “combating corruption is a fundamental step to restoring citizens’ trust in the government and its institutions,” emphasizing that “corruption has led to the plundering and embezzlement of enormous sums of money over many years.”
He added that “the absence of genuine national will to confront corruption will have extremely serious consequences,” calling for “opening the black file by addressing all corruption cases in local governments across the provinces without exception.”
He pointed out that “what has been observed during parliamentary work is alarming and reveals the existence of major cases that necessitate serious investigation and the disclosure of their findings to the public,” stressing “the importance of recovering all the plundered funds, identifying those involved, and bringing them to justice.”
Al-Hamami concluded by saying, “Corruption represents a major problem within state institutions, and deterrent measures must be taken against corrupt individuals and their associates to prevent the continued embezzlement of funds allocated for service projects.”
