The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Hebat al-Halbousi, praised on Tuesday the ongoing peace process in Türkiye and the role of the country’s parliament in this regard, while confirming that the Iraqi authorities are proceeding with the process of disarming the factions.
This came during a joint press conference he held with his Turkish counterpart, Numan Kurtulmus, on the sidelines of his official visit to Ankara.
Al-Halbousi said during the conference that the measures taken by the Turkish government in the peace process and the declaration of Turkey as free of terrorism are very important for it and for neighboring countries, praising the role of the Turkish parliament in this regard through the passage of a law that frames the dissolution of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and its disarmament.
In his press conference, the Speaker of Parliament addressed the internal situation in his country, saying: “In Iraq, we have taken practical measures to restrict weapons to the state and strengthen its sovereignty in this area.”
He added that all parties, political groups and blocs in Iraq support measures aimed at ending the presence of terrorism and armed groups outside the framework of the state, considering this important for establishing security and stability in Iraq, Turkey, Iran and all countries of the region.
For his part, Kurtulmus expressed his hope that the “Türkiye without terrorism” initiative would have an impact on the entire region and that Iraqis would be rid of terrorism.
