The head of the National State Forces Alliance, Ammar al-Hakim, affirmed on Saturday that the involvement of Prime Minister-designate Ali al-Zaidi in the private sector represents an “advantage” that supports the direction of the next government towards addressing economic issues and revitalizing productive sectors.

During his meeting at the Baghdad Diwan for professional and union elites and competencies, Al-Hakim said that the current stage requires “leaving the routine and bureaucratic contexts,” stressing the need to support the private sector and for the government to become “a government that sponsors and organizes the interests of citizens.”

He added that the political system in Iraq is “parliamentary and is expressed through political blocs,” considering that this system “enhances integration and participation and prevents the return of dictatorship.”

Al-Hakim pointed out that “mutual concern among political forces leads to a compromise candidate,” indicating that it is natural for “the Prime Minister to return to the blocs that nominated him and gave him confidence in strategic decisions.”

He described the priorities of the current phase as “purely economic,” calling for reducing Iraq’s dependence on oil by expanding export outlets, diversifying the economy, and stimulating the agriculture, industry, tourism, investment, and modern technology sectors.

He expressed his confidence in Al-Zaidi’s ability to revitalize these sectors “based on his background as a private sector man.”

Al-Hakim also praised the achievements of the government of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, calling for appreciation of its efforts, and stressing the importance of maintaining a balance in Iraq’s regional and international relations in a manner consistent with the national interest.

Al-Hakim also stressed the need to put in place controls on foreign labor, maintain the independence of unions, and mobilize the private sector to absorb unemployment.
