Al-Dulaimi demands that the Al-Zaidi government reclaim the Al-Mu-ajiz oil port seized by Saudi ArabiaAl-Maalomah/Baghdad –
Raed Abdullah al-Dulaimi, a member of the Anbar Alliance, called on the government of Ali Faleh al-Zaidi on Thursday to reclaim the Iraqi oil pipeline running through Saudi Arabia and onward to other countries. The pipeline has been under Saudi control for over 40 years, despite the fact that all construction costs were borne by the Iraqi government.
Al-Dulaimi told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “There are parliamentary demands to open an investigation into the theft of the Iraqi oil pipeline through Saudi Arabia (the al-Mu’ajiz oil terminal) by the Saudi government, which seized it in 2003 and continues to do so to this day. Neither previous nor current governments have been able to reclaim the pipeline, which was completed in the 1980s with Iraqi funds.”
He added that “Al-Zaidi’s visit to Saudi Arabia yesterday did not address the issue of recovering the Iraqi oil pipeline, much to the surprise and displeasure of a large number of members of parliament who demanded that the file on the stolen pipeline be reopened and that it be recovered.” He explained that “Saudi Arabia confiscated the pipeline, which was fully completed and from which the first oil loading operation took place in the late 1980s, and it was seized by Saudi Arabia in 1991 due to the unstable security situation in Iraq.”
