On Tuesday, Mohammed Dhari al-Dulaimi, a leader in the Azm Alliance, revealed that more than 135 MPs from the Coordination Framework, Sunni forces, and Kurdish groups have signed a petition to oust the current Speaker of Parliament, Haibat al-Halbousi. The petition alleges that al-Halbousi has turned Parliament into a tool for settling scores with opponents of the Taqaddum Party and for fomenting chaos during the vote of confidence for the al-Zaidi government, all for transparently political purposes.
Al-Dulaimi told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “There is a parliamentary consensus to form a new front comprising more than 138 MPs from various opposition political blocs that have not received their constitutional entitlement. This front will proceed with withdrawing confidence from the current Speaker of Parliament, Haibat al-Halbousi, due to his instigating disputes within Parliament in an attempt to exclude Azm Alliance candidates and create chaos for transparently political ends.”
He added that “Al-Halbousi has diminished the role of his deputy and unilaterally issued decisions that benefit his party, the ‘Progress Alliance,’ and has used the parliament as a tool to eliminate the opponents of his party’s leader, Mohammed Al-Halbousi,” indicating that “the parliament
